PAKISTAN VS ZIMBABWE 1st T20 MATCH LIVE | PAK vs ZIM 1ST T20 LIVE COMMENTARY (ZIM vs PAK)
Pakistan have nine more T20Is (3 vs Zimbabwe, 6 vs England) to sort their combination before the T20 World Cup in India in late this year. Series wins against South Africa both home and away and the home series win over Zimbabwe keep them in good stead.
Babar Azam's return to the side and at the top of the order strengthens the batting and alongside Mohammad Rizwan, the duo make a formidable opening combination. Fakhar Zaman hitting good form keeps the batting unit in good click, but one area Pakistan will be keen to address is a bit more consistency in the middle-order.
There's no lack of potential in their bowling unit usually. Hasan Ali finished the South Africa series as the top-wicket taker, while Mohammad Nawaz too was impressive with his left-arm spin. No surprises that Pakistan enter the series as favourites.
Zimbabwe were clean-swept in their last T20I series by Afghanistan in the UAE, where captain Sean Williams felt his team was always behind the eight ball conceding too many runs. Afghanistan won the three games by 48, 45 and 47 runs respectively and the visitors could not give them a fight with the bat.
The return of Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine for this series should help them address that issue, but they will be without Sikandar Raza, who has been ruled out to an upper-arm injury.
The hosts have also named three fresh faces in Tadiwanashe Marumani (batsman), Tanaka Chivanga (pacer) and Tapiwa Mufudza (off-spinner).
When: Wednesday, 21 April, 09:00 AM GMT/ 11:00 AM LOCAL
Where: Harare Sports Club
What to expect: Morning starts in Harare usually tend to make the pitch a bit tacky and difficult for strokeplay with the new ball, so teams would be keen to send their opponents in to bat. The weather looks cricket-friendly.
Team news:
Pakistan: They didn't tinker much with their XI in the South Africa series barring injuries and Asif Ali was given a go in the last two games. It will be interesting to see if the team management ropes leggie Usman Qadir back in considering the sluggish nature of the pitches in Harare.
Probable XI: Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Haider Ali, Asif Ali/Usman Qadir, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf
Zimbabwe: The hosts are sure to make changes from their previous series with the return of a few seniors and the injury to Raza.
Full squad: Sean Williams (C), Ryan Burl, Regis Chakabva, Tanaka Chivanga, Craig Ervine, Luke Jongwe, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Wesley Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Tapiwa Mufudza, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Brendan Taylor, Donald Tiripano
